Leeds United injury list and return dates with vastly experienced quartet sidelined

Leeds United face a huge fight to remain in the Premier League following their 4-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend. The Whites’ defeat to the champions capped a disastrous weekend of results from a Leeds perspective with both Everton and Burnley picking up three points in matches against Chelsea and Watford respectively.

Jesse Marsch’s side now hold just a two-point buffer to 18th place Everton, who have played a game less. Burnley are now also above Leeds thanks to their far superior goal difference.

Not only was it a difficult weekend for Leeds from a results perspective, but their injury situation also took a turn for the worst. So with that in mind, here is a look at the state of play in the Whites’ treatment room.

Stuart Dallas – leg

The ever-dependable Stuart Dallas, who is the only outfielder to have started every match this season, is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a femoral fracture against Manchester City. Dallas is set to undergo surgery on the injury and it remains unclear as to whether he will play again this year.

What’s been said (May 1): “Stuart faces a lengthy period out of action due to a femoral fracture. He was kept overnight at Leeds General and will now travel to London for surgery and further tests.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Liam Cooper – knee

After starting three consecutive matches on his return from a hamstring injury, Liam Cooper was forced to pull out of the starting XI for City due to a knee problem sustained in the warm up. The severity of the injury has not yet been discovered.

What Marsch said (April 30): “So first, Liam had a weird feeling in his knee and warm up after making a pass. Nobody's really sure exactly what it is and he will need a scan. We're hopeful, hopeful that it's not a major issue, but we will see.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Patrick Bamford – foot

There is now real hope that Patrick Bamford will play some part in the run-in after Marsch revealed on Thursday he would be returning to training this week. Bamford has been missing since March after rupturing his plantar fascia.

What Marsch said (April 28): “I suspect and can probably expect that he will be on the pitch next week. We have to again be cautious but we’re all optimistic about Patrick at this point.

Potential return date: 15/05/22

Crysencio Summerville – ankle

Crysencio Summerville is also set to miss the rest of the season after picking up an ankle injury ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace last Monday. That was yet another blow for Leeds suffered in training after Adam Forshaw’s knee injury a few days earlier.

What Marsch said (April 28): “Picked up an injury in the last training session before the Palace match. He twisted his ankle and will be done for the season.

Potential return date: Out for season

Adam Forshaw – knee

In a very unfortunate training ground incident, Adam Forshaw is set to miss the rest of the season after fracturing his kneecap in a collision. Marsch is expecting him to be absent for the next six weeks and he will therefore be next available in pre-season.

What Marsch said (22.04.22): “We had an unfortunate injury with Adam. He took a knock and fractured his knee cap. It’s a six-week injury, so that puts him out for the season. By summer, he’ll be back and ready to go.”

Potential return date: Out for season

Tyler Roberts – hamstring

Marsch revealed last month that Tyler Roberts is progressing well in his recovery, though given the initial recovery timeline, he is still set to miss the rest of the season. Roberts underwent surgery on a hamstring injury he suffered at Leicester City.

What Marsch said (22.04.22): “ Tyler Roberts is also making good progress.”

Potential return date: Out for season
