Criticism of Andrea Radrizzani’s investment, Victor Orta’s scouting as well as Leeds United’s sales of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha has been rife this summer. That’s the view of Angus Kinnear, who has hit back with a staunch defence today.
The Whites chief executive has continued his programme notes with the beginning of the new campaign. In his first opportunity to address last season and this summer’s business in the club publication, Kinnear has underlined the current board’s undiminished resolve to push United forward.
“We accept faltering in our trajectory means critics will question and doubt all aspects of our management including Andrea’s commitment to invest, Victor’s ability to pick a player and (most bizarrely) whether these programme notes are still industry-defining,” he said.

“Our resolve as custodians to make this club great again remains undiminished. Surviving the treacherous first two years now gives us every opportunity to continue to build and enjoy future seasons looking up and not down.”
The major transfer news of the summer has been the outgoings of the club’s biggest talents. Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha departed and fans have had questions about the business.
“The departures of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha provided the biggest news of the summer and naturally led to claims this was indicative of a club lacking ambition,” said Kinnear. “However, having two players that are sought after by two preeminent teams in world football and being able to reinvest every penny of the proceeds into more than a third of the squad is a sign of strength, not weakness.”
