Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines for Monday, August 29.
Merson makes Leeds vs Everton prediction
Paul Merson believes Leeds will beat Everton 2-0 at Elland Road on Tuesday. The former Arsenal midfielder correctly predicted Leeds' defeat at Brighton on Saturday.
However, despite that 1-0 loss in Sussex, Merson thinks Leeds will get back on the winning trail against the Toffees.
“Jesse Marsch said after the game against Brighton that his players were freestyling on the pitch and sort of deviated from the game plan – which is a worrying sign as a manager," Merson said in his SportsKeeda column.
“This is a big game for both teams, I fancy Leeds to return to winning ways with a 2-0 win after a disappointing loss last time around.
“If Everton lose again and reluctantly agree to sell Anthony Gordon to Chelsea, Frank Lampard and co could be in a lot of trouble this season.”
Maupay looking to continue Leeds record
Neal Maupay is set to feature in Everton's squad against Leeds United at Elland Road on Tuesday evening.
The 26-year-old became the Toffees' sixth summer signing when he completed his transfer from Brighton on Friday evening, but was unable to play in Everton's 1-1 draw at Brentford on Saturday.
The Frenchman has scored more goals against Leeds (four) than he has managed against any other club during his career. Maupay scored the only goal at Elland Road in 2020/21 and also scored three times against the Whites for Brentford in the Championship.
Struijk details World Cup dream
Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk has revealed that it would be a 'dream' to play at the World Cup in the future. The 23-year-old was born in Belgium and his paternal grandparents were born in the Dutch East Indies - making him eligible to play for Belgium or Indonesia.
However, Struijk moved to The Hague at the age of three and spent 15 years of his life in the Netherlands, where he took in spells in the youth academies of ADO Den Haag and Ajax respectively.
Struijk was capped three times by the Netherlands U17s in 2016 and played alongside a number of current Dutch internationals, including Matthijs de Ligt, Tyrell Malacia and Donyell Malen. The Leeds defender believes the best route onto the international stage is to focus on his performances at club level.
