Leeds United headlines as football finance expert details how busy Whites commercial team have been

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines on Sunday, 18 December.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire details Leeds United commercial attractiveness

Leeds United's unique qualities make the club an attractive commercial partner.

That is the view of football finance expert Kieran Maguire, who believes the Whites one-club city status, coupled with the clubs loyal fanbase make them an excellent commercial partner for investors.

Earlier this week, the club announced a partnership with B2B payments company TransferMate.

And Maguire believes Leeds will continue to be an attractive proposition for businesses, especially on an international front with their passionate overseas supporter base.

"Leeds' commercial department have been very, very busy, especially since the club was promoted," Maguire told Football Insider.

"They have leveraged the fact that it is a one-club city and has a very passionate and large support base. That is the case both in the UK and overseas.

"I think that’s reflected in the number of deals they have signed but also the level of interest from the likes of TransferMate.

"These are companies that aren’t necessarily prepared to pay what they have been quoted by Champions League clubs.

"Leeds are certainly among the best of the rest. Therefore, that makes them popular with sponsors."

On-loan Dan James details previous Leeds United transfer frustration

Welsh winger Dan James has revealed how his failed deadline day move to Leeds United back in 2019 left him feeling so frustrated, he threw his phone across the Swansea City boardroom.

While James, who is currently on-loan at Fulham, eventually signed for Leeds in August 2021, he almost joined the Whites back in January 2019.

A move from Swansea looked all but certain to be completed, with James even pictured holding up a Leeds shirt for his signing announcement, only for the Swans chairman, Huw Jenkins, to pull the plug on the deal at the last minute.

"At the time, it was January and I wasn’t really too keen about leaving Swansea," explained James.

"I was in a good place, it was my first season. I wasn’t offered a new contract there and I come in to Leeds and it was a massive opportunity.

"After that, it went to deadline day and I couldn’t quite believe it."

Who is George Hall? The young English star tipped for Leeds United January move

eeds United's first foray into the January transfer market could be completed before the window even opens as they are reportedly on the verge of signing Birmingham City midfielder George Hall.

After a goal and two assists in 18 appearances for the Blues in the Championship this season, Hall is seen as one of England's hottest young prospects and the Whites have been linked to him for a few months now.

Manager Jesse Marsch will have no doubts in his mind about how he'll be using the England Under-19s representative, after he wasn't shy about giving young talent like Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto and Sam Greenwood chances to impress in the top-flight rather than wasting them in the academy setup.

As the return of the Premier League nears, Hall will be able to take advantage of Leeds' summer signings from earlier this year with the likes of Tyler Adams and Marc Roca being fantastic players to learn from for Hall if the Whites can secure his services.
