Jesse Marsch had been through a rollercoaster of emotions when the final whistle blew at Brentford on the final day of the season. Leeds United had pulled off survival on the final day to ensure their Premier League status for the 2022/23 campaign.
It was in the aftermath of that result, that Marsch gave supporters and insight into what the future would hold for the Whites. The Leeds United boss spoke about the potential the group ahead of a meeting with Victor Orta to discuss how to shape thee squad for the upcoming season.
Fast forward two months and the Whites board have certainly backed their manager, spending a reported £91million so far in the transfer market, and they're still on the hunt for a left-back and a striker before the window slams shut. So far, just Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester City have spent more in the European summer window.

The Whites have also spent more money than Tottenham, Chelsea, PSG, West Ham and Juventus as they look to avoid a repeat of last season. Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca and Darko Gyabi have been brought in to bolster the squad, while the likes of Julian Quinones and Arnaud Kalimuendo are being linked with moves to Elland Road.
Speaking after the win over Brentford on the final day of the season, Marsch said: "We all need to take a little break, we’ve earned it. It’s been a stressful time but we’re going to have a meeting in the next couple of days and we’re going to talk about how to build this roster and continue to build this club in a way that we want to represent moving forward.
"I think there’s still so much potential and teams always change, that’s a fact, but from the academy all the way up, we need to focus on the infrastructure and maximise the potential of what we can become every day. Now we have an opportunity to do that.
"From the beginning, when Victor asked me to come, I went through it with you guys, at first I was like ‘no’. Then I thought about it for 24 hours and it was an opportunity. My focus was to keep us up but it’s been a very important three months for me and my connection to the future of this club.
"I know the players more, I know the club more, I know the people that work within the club, I know the fans, I know the community, I’m much more aware of exactly what we are and where I want to take it. That’s how I treated it from the beginning but I was laser focused on achieving this goal."
