Leeds United have every right to feel as though fortune has deserted them as they come to terms with the thought of yet more inactivity. The Whites have seen two games postponed over the last few days following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Monday’s scheduled clash with Nottingham Forest was chalked off by the Premier League as a mark of respect on the morning after the announcement of the Queen’s passing. However, the Whites have also seen next Sunday’s match at Old Trafford against Manchester United called off, due to the state funeral, which takes place in London on Monday, and the overwhelming size of the operation required.
The Premier League have given seven games the green light to go ahead this weekend, but the decision to postpone Leeds’ trip across the Pennines means the club are set to go an entire month without a Premier League fixture. Indeed, United’s next outing will come on October 2 when Aston Villa head to Elland Road, four weeks after Jesse Marsch’s side took on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
