Leeds United will host Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at Elland Road in the second round of the Carabao Cup. The second round of the League Cup is scheduled to be played on the week commencing 22 August.
Barnsley defeated Championship side Middlesbrough 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium in the first round on Wednesday. United are one of 13 Premier League clubs not involved in European competition and entered at the second round stage alongside Championship sides Burnley and Watford.
Leeds have been eliminated in the second round in three of the last four seasons. However, they did reach the fourth round last term – defeating Crewe Alexandra and Fulham respectively before losing to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Whites lifted the League Cup in 1968 – defeating Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley Stadium, and finished runners-up in 1996. Their longest run in the competition since has been a pair of quarter-final finishes in 2012/13 and 2016/17 respectively.
