Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford opens up on 'frustrating' injury journey after Cardiff brace

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has admitted that despite a 'frustrating' few months out with injuries, he's feeling 'much better' after his two goals against Cardiff City in the F.A Cup.

The 29-year-old has capped off his last two substitute appearances with three goals following a groin injury that left him out of contention for a few months.

But now Bamford has returned following a successful surgery, and after pundits and fans alike were worried about having to find a replacement for him in the transfer window, it seems the ever-reliable frontman is back to his best.

After replacing Rodrigo in the second half, the Whites forward netted his first, and the team's fourth, goal by perfectly curling the ball around Bluebirds goalkeeper Jak Alnwick before finding his second just five minutes later with a nice flick into the bottom corner.

Speaking to ITV after the match, Bamford highlighted the pains of repeated injuries and how defeated a player can feel if he trains and trains but keeps getting knocked back down.

"Yeah, it's nice to be back playing again and getting myself some more minutes, that's the most important thing. But getting the goals is nice, once you get one, they seem to come in pairs and I knew that'd be the case all season. It was just about coming back really fit.

"I think the longer you're out... it sounds simple but the harder it gets to come back because you can start picking up lots of little things which was frustrating. But hopefully the operation has sorted out all the problems I had and I'm feeling much better now."
