Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford labels Crystal Palace defeat a 'freak result'

Patrick Bamford has described Leeds United's 5-1 defeat against Crystal Palace as a 'freak result' but insists one result won't define their season.

The forward notched his 50th Leeds goal to open the scoring in the 21st minute, But Marc Guehi equalised on the cusp of half-time, before Leeds pressed the self destruct button in the second half.

Quickfire goals from Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze shortly after the interval left Leeds stunned, and Javi Gracia's side never recovered.

Odsonne Eduoard punished them further with the fourth, and Ayew was left onside by Rasmus Kristensen, to bag his brace in the 77th minute.

Bamford claimed Leeds were punished for their mistakes, but has emphasized the importance of not dwelling on today's result.

"The first half we were really good, probably should've been a few goals ahead. They had a couple of chances at set pieces, we managed to keep them to that because we knew players like Eze and Olise are good players when you give them time," Bamford told LUTV.

"And then the second half we kind of fell apart and it was a freak result in the second half. But one that we'll move on from and I said before the game that one game doesn't decide it. It wasn't the be all and end all but we move on."

He added: "They score the second goal to go ahead and then the third one came really quick. They punished us for the mistakes we made and at this level if you make mistakes then most of the time you're going to get punished.

"It was one of those games where every mistake we made literally got punished during that [second] half."

Leeds missed out on the chance to climb five points clear of the relegation zone, and sit in 16th place with eight games remaining.
