Leeds United fans take out advert in Rosario paper in Argentina to thank former boss Marcelo Bielsa

Despite results turning sour and with relegation a genuine threat, there was a huge outpouring of emotion amongst Leeds United fans when Marcelo Bielsa was relieved of his duties as manager of the club. That's due to the fact that the Argentine made himself a club legend during his time at Elland Road, leading Leeds back to the Premier League at the end of their centenary season and having spent 16 years outside the top tier of English football.

Additionally, on their return to the top tier, the Whites played fearless football, beginning with a valiant 4-3 loss to Liverpool at Anfield and ending with a ninth placed finish and one of the highest ever points totals for a promoted team. Leeds fan were therefore understandably devastated that Bielsa had to leave the club after such a successful period before this season.

When the news broke that the legendary manager had been sacked, Leeds fans flocked to Thorp Arch to thank their hero. Meanwhile, the supporters trust collated and sent messages of thanks to Bielsa as so many wanted to thank him, wish him well and say goodbye. Now a group of Leeds fans have gone a step further by taking out a full page advert in a Rosario newspaper to send their thanks:

One of the aspects that Leeds fans loved about Bielsa was how he displayed values people could cling to as well as the performances on the football pitch. They wrote:

"You gave us so much more than football. You took us through a pandemic and brought us all together while we were all apart. You showed us that integrity and decency matter, in good times and bad."

The paper also published an article about the fans who had come together to commission the advert. Bielsa has been linked to several jobs since leaving Leeds but he has yet to take up any offers. Meanwhile Leeds have pulled away from relegation danger in recent weeks, under the guidance of new manager Jesse Marsch.
