Leeds United 'eyeing summer move' for Europa League star Daichi Kamada

Leeds United are reportedly eyeing a move for Daichi Kamada from Eintracht Frankfurt if they are able to secure their Premier League status. That will be the case with all of the Whites’ current transfer targets going into the summer.

Victor Orta and co will have to re-evaluate their options at the end of the season if Leeds are consigned to the Championship. However, at the moment, there will still be a confidence within the staff and players at Elland Road that they will be able to do enough to stay in the top flight.

For that reason, players like Kamada are currently on the radar, according to Football Insider, as the club look to add quality to a wafer-thin squad. The lack of midfielders available to Marcelo Bielsa and then Jesse Marsch could not have been clearer this season as injuries to Kalvin Phillips and now Adam Forshaw have exposed the largely non-existent depth at Leeds.

As for Kamada, he properly announced himself to an English audience in the first leg of West Ham’s Europa League semi-final. The attacking midfielder ran the show at the London Stadium and netted a second-half winner to give Frankfurt a vital one-goal advantage heading back to Germany.

After watching that performance, he certainly won’t be short of potential suitors when the summer transfer window opens on July 1. For regular viewers of the Bundesliga, a showing like that from Kamada is nothing new as he has consistently been one of Frankfurt’s stand-out players over the last few years.

In his 128 appearances in all competitions for the German side, the Japan international has scored 24 goals and added 26 assists. He has been a revelation in the Europa League, in particular, in the last couple of seasons in a more advanced attacking role with 11 goals and three assists in 21 games.

Jesse Marsch will have seen Kamada up close when his Leipzig side faced Frankfurt earlier this season, but the 25-year-old was unable to have any real impact in the 1-1 draw.
