Eyes at Leeds United will be on USA’s injury updates in the coming days as Brenden Aaronson’s 2022 World Cup threatens to ignite. The 22-year-old, so instrumental for the Whites this term, is yet to start for his country in Qatar.
Aaronson has been restricted to 25, 14 and 45-minute outings for Gregg Berhalter’s side in three group games which have catapulted USA into the second round. Netherlands will face the Americans on Saturday and Aaronson has a real chance of making his full debut in the planet’s biggest football competition.
Jesse Marsch, who was vocal in his support for Tyler Adams and Aaronson this week, and Leeds will be paying special attention because of the injuries suffered on Tuesday night. Christian Pulisic and Josh Sargent were each removed from the Iran match with issues.

Pulisic went to hospital and has since said he feels he will be ready for Saturday’s game, but there’s nothing yet to officially rule either player fit for the Dutch clash. Sargent appeared to hyperextend his knee when he fell, but he confirmed it was the forward flex of his ankle that saw his game end on 77 minutes.
Aaronson was the man to replace Pulisic, who suffered a pelvic contusion, at half-time in Tuesday’s win. The Leeds attacker may have been disappointed to find himself outside the XI up to now, but he’s the first man from the bench when Berhalter needs something different.
Should either Pulisic or Sargent be missing from USA’s frontline, Aaronson is likely to be the first man into the breach. This tournament has been dominated by Adams headlines from a Leeds perspective, but they might finally get to see their other American have his moment in Qatar.
