Redeeming performances, inspiring victories, quality and commitment are retaining Angus Kinnear’s optimism in Leeds United’s direction under Jesse Marsch. The Whites are without a win in seven matches and delivered an insipid display at the league’s then-bottom club on Thursday night.
The loss triggered universal dismay in the away corner at Leicester City, where there were boos, questions about the performance and calls for Marcelo Bielsa. Marsch remained stoic in his message of unity across the club after the loss and that was backed by the board on Friday morning.
Writing ahead of Sunday’s Fulham encounter, the chief executive has put more flesh on the bones of support still propping up Marsch’s tenure. Kinnear said: “While the overall trajectory during our custodianship has been upward, there have been many short-term ‘ups and downs’ and we should remember the false dawns and depressing defeats have been outnumbered by redeeming performances and inspiring victories.

“While nobody can hide from the fact our winless run is certainly troubling, there have been enough moments of quality from a team whose commitment can never be doubted. We should all have confidence we can correct the course of the season before the World Cup break and then return in December to build on a firm foundation.”
