Leeds United will reinvest money brought in from the sales of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha to sign ‘three more players’, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Whites look set to bring in around £100million through the departures of their two prized assets as the club continue to rebuild the side after last season’s nail-biting relegation scrap.
Midfield lynchpin Phillips looks certain to go to Manchester City, with the Premier League champions agreeing an initial £45million fee for his signature. The 26-year-old is pencilled in for a medical on Friday, with personal terms not thought to be causing any problems.
Raphinha, meanwhile, could go to one of several suitors. Chelsea had an initial offer of £55million accepted by Leeds earlier in the week after Arsenal had their opening offer rejected. The winger’s preferred option is Barcelona, but they were priced out of the race amid their financial problems - although a recent cash injection from the sale of their television rights may put them back in contention.

Either way, Raphinha’s departure this summer is likely and that will bring in a total of over £100million for him and Phillips. Leeds have already been busy this summer, bring in Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca for a combined £45million, but Romano has claimed the club will reinvest a ‘big part’ of the £100million on three new additions.
“But let me say for Leeds that from what I’m told, they will invest on three players now.” He told the Que Golazo YouTube channel. “So they already signed three players and they want to sign three more players after selling Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.
“They will reinvest a big part of the money they’re receiving. So I think it’s a very good and smart strategy. So they want to restart with new talents. They already signed three and they’re going to continue in the coming days.”
Victor Orta’s first port of call will be to replace both Raphinha and Phillips. RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams and RB Salzburg’s Mohamed Camara have been touted as direct replacements in midfield, while PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo is an ambitious preferred option on the right-wing.
Leeds are also yet to land one of their original priority positions in terms of a new striker. The club were left badly exposed by Patrick Bamford’s injury problems last season and - while he is now fit and Joe Gelhardt will only increase in prominence - a third competitive option is needed.
