Leeds United have been backed to secure Premier League survival by the narrowest of margins despite their winless run extending to eight on Sunday. FiveThirtyEight’s supercomputer - which uses statistical information and detailed data analysis to calculate how the Premier League table will finish in May – thinks Leeds will end the season in 17th place, just one point ahead of the bottom three.
The Whites have accumulated just two points from their last eight matches but the data used by the supercomputer - which changes every week - has clearly seen enough to suggest they will survive. The competitive nature of the bottom half, though, means it is set to be another uncomfortable season for supporters following last year's struggles.
The only side slightly cut adrift from the rest is Nottingham Forest, who are predicted to finish bottom of the table on 32 points. Fellow newly promoted side Bournemouth are also expected to join them in the bottom three on 35 points, with Wolves the final team to be joining them in the Championship - just a point behind Leeds, who finish on 38 points.
