Leeds star Danny Malin teases new business plans as he looks for new partner

Danny Malin is looking for a new business partner after his takeaway shut down, teasing ideas like a “dark kitchen” or even steamed bao buns.

The Rate My Takeaway star opened Brody’s in Robin Lane, Pudsey, just over a year ago on March 11, 2022. He opened the business with pal Ashleigh Steel, the mother-of-two named the American style takeaway after her one-year-old son.

They served up burgers, loaded fries, southern fried chicken, and a variety of milkshakes. Danny said an unforeseen circumstance led to weeks of the takeaway only opening for a couple of days a week.

The decision was taken to close the business down in January. Danny only acted as a “silent partner” during this period, allowing Ashleigh to pursue “her dream” in the business. Going forward, he’s determined to take a more active role in what the premises becomes.

Danny, who still owns the lease on the building, said: “Unfortunately, it’s not panned out. I’ve now agreed to take the business back off them so I am in the process of looking for another business partner.

“Someone who can run the business. I’ve got a couple of ideas but it’s just in the early stages. I want to make sure it’s the right person with the right drive and ambition.

“I was gutted Brody’s didn’t work out. Ashleigh is a good friend of mine. I feel sorry for them as the food they were cooking was absolutely out-of-this-world but sometimes in life, you’ve just got to do what’s right. There’s no bad feelings between us.

“Hopefully in the future we can do something again together.”

Ashleigh was running the business with her partner Michael Donoghue, Danny has said the business was doing well but couldn’t continue due to unforeseen circumstances and re-emphasised how much of a “shame” it was.

Danny has teased some of the ideas he’s been considering for the new business, which could range from either burger, sandwiches or even steamed bao buns. This time around he’s looking to get more involved, rather than just renting out the space.

Danny said: “Moving forward, I do feel like I do have to be more involved in the branding side of it and pushing it out there.”

Danny has contacted “a few well-known establishments in Leeds”. He’s also been juggling the idea of starting up a “dark kitchen” where it’s run purely on a delivery and can “just focus on quality food and advertising”. He’s added there may be an update within the next week.
