Clueless Javi Gracia admitted he could not “find the words for our supporters” after travelling fans turned on his shambolic Leeds team.
Whites fans chanted: “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” and “Sack the board” after a 4-1 thumping at Bournemouth. Leeds conceded 23 goals in seven games in April - the most in a single month in Premier League history. Only goal difference will keep them out of the bottom three by Monday night, with Leicester facing Everton.
“At this moment, I don’t find the words for our supporters,” said interim boss Gracia. "It is hard for them, hard for us, the situation we are living. At this moment I think they prefer to see their team playing better and winning games than listening to me. For our fans, what they really want is to see the team win. All of us are frustrated, the fans as well."
Asked if he will remain in charge for Saturday’s game with leaders Manchester City, the Spaniard added: “If I am here, I suppose.”
Leeds also face Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham before the end of a torrid season.
“I don't like to speak much about our situation in the table but in this moment we are not in the relegation zone,” Gracia added.
“Of course we have tough games and we have to get ready for that. We need to keep our momentum and try to believe we can do it. Above all try to work hard these next days and the next game. You know when I arrived the situation was even worse and now of course the last results are tough for all of us but we have to change the dynamic and we have four games to do it.
"Of course if we concede the mistakes we are conceding in all the games it is difficult to compete well and get the results we need.
"We have to be more consistent defending, attacking, more aggressive. If we don't do that, it will be difficult to get the points we need.”
