Leeds residents in shock as car smashes into homes on street

Residents are calling for 'something to be done' after a car came off the road and crashed into two homes in Leeds.

Just after 9am this morning, Tuesday, December 27, a loud crash was heard. A car had come off the road, hit a car in a driveway, hit a bay window and then crashed into a second bay window.

Thankfully, no one was hurt. One resident of one of the affected homes told LeedsLive "the whole house shook" as the car careered into it and it has been very scary.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the accident. The road was icy in the morning, and it is thought the car may have skidded.

The second window that the car hit was completely destroyed. Serious damage was caused to the window of the first house, a car in an adjacent driveway, and garden walls and gates.

"I heard a really loud noise this morning, but at first I just assumed it was bin men or something," a nearby resident said. "And then I came past for a walk and saw the car had gone through the house."

West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service both attended the scene. The affected homes were cordoned off, and removal trucks later came to lift the crashed car from where it had stopped.

Another of the residents in the affected homes said: "We need speed bumps on this road as people come down too fast - this isn't the first time there's been an accident on this bend. Something needs to be done after this." The street has a 20mph speed limit in place.

Another person who lives further down the road said: "I want to see speed bumps too. Cars come speeding down here way faster than they should.

"That big stone boulder you can see behind the car - that's in the middle of the garden because of a previous accident that knocked it there. No one has been able to move it since because it's so heavy."

One resident said: "It needs to be gritted early on down here when it's icy. When the fire engine came this morning it even slipped briefly and everyone ran to hide in their gardens!

"I think keeping it safe in the bad weather is the most important thing."
