Leeds River Aire flood warnings with road cut off and homes at risk

The heavy rain brought by Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin battered Leeds causing river banks to burst and flooding in some areas.

However, things have since calmed down with 30 flood warnings that were once in place for the city, have now reduced to two remaining in place.

The Environment Agency issued the updates this morning (Wednesday) stating the River Aire at Allerton Ings and River Aire at Mickleton are still at risk of flooding.

The river levels have fallen since yesterday but flooding is still possible affecting nearby properties.

Barnsdale Road, near River Aire at Allerton Ings is likely to remain impassable throughout the day due to flooding.

River Aire at Allerton Ings, Barnsdale Road and Properties

The Environment Agency warns: “River levels in the River Aire at Barnsdale Road and Allerton Ings have continued to fall since yesterday, 22/02/22. The levels within Allerton Ings are also falling steadily, however, as levels remain elevated the risk of flooding still remains. Areas most at risk are Castleford Car Centre and adjacent residential properties, with Barnsdale Road likely to remain impassable throughout today.”

River Aire at Mickletown

The agency said: “River levels have now fallen, however, Mickletown Ings remains full. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland remains possible today, Wednesday 23/02/2022. The area most at risk is Mill Lane. Mickletown Ings is reaching capacity, therefore there is a risk that nearby properties may flood. The water levels in the Ings will remain high this morning (23/02/2022) but should begin to slowly drain over the next few days.
