New Leeds Rhinos recruit Nene Macdonald should be fit for the start of the season, despite currently recovering from a torn quad. Rugby League Live understands the club's new centre is currently in rehab after suffering the injury during Papua New Guinea's defeat to England in the World Cup quarter-final.
The Rhinos made Macdonald their most recent signing ahead of the 2023 season, signing the 28-year-old from Super League newcomers Leigh Leopards. However, he has arrived at the club with an injury that saw him forced from the field in the quarter-final during the first half of the game at the DW Stadium.
Macdonald, who scored more than a try per game at Leigh and has over 100 NRL appearances to his name, is believed to have been ruled out for three months when he first suffered the injury. He is now thought to be around seven weeks away from full fitness. Going off that schedule, he should be back to full health by the start of February, a few weeks before the Super League opener with Warrington on the 16th.
