Leeds Rhinos' Mikolaj Oledzki fuelled to be better after England World Cup frustrations

Leeds Rhinos prop Mikolaj Oledzki has provided a positive update on his shoulder following an operation. The England forward went under the knife to treat an injury initially sustained during the Rhinos' play-off win over Catalans Dragons in September.

Oledzki, who is hopeful of being fit for the start of the season, reported back to Kirkstall as his rehabilitation continues and has already made progress as he plots his return to action.

"It feels great now and everything is going in the right direction," he told the club's official website. "I'm where I want to be and the same with the medical staff. The surgeon did a great job and we're on the recovery stage."

He added: "It's been a week and I'm doing more than I thought I would be doing. We've been able to get it moving more than I thought and next week I'll be able to do some conditioning and trim some Christmas weight down as I haven't been able to do stuff for a while. Give it a month or so, I'm hoping to be in a good position."

Oledzki has added motivation upon his return. He was only selected for one of England's World Cup games, a fact that left him frustrated after securing his place in Shaun Wane's squad.

"To be honest I was really looking forward to the off-season, it's been a long season, plenty of up and downs and I felt like it was a long time for my body to get bashed about.

"But the way the year ended for me, it made me want to get back to work quickly and made me hungry to be better and I was a bit disappointed with myself, that I didn't give myself enough opportunities. I wanted to play more in the World Cup and I was really gutted I didn't play as much as I wanted to. But it made me more hungry to be better and improve what I need to improve on and play good rugby again."
