Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani is reportedly considering an audacious bid to buy Inter Milan.
The Italian's Aser Ventures company are currently the majority shareholders in the Elland Road club, with Radrizzani buying out previous co-owner Massimo Cellino back in May 2017. Just over three years later, Leeds were promoted back into the Premier League after a top flight absence spanning 16 years.
But interest has seemingly been aroused by the prospect of Inter being sold. The 'I Nerazzurri' has been hit by financial losses amid a high wage bill, with the commercial and television revenue in Italy on a much lesser scale to the equivalent league in England.
And now according to Bloomberg, Radrizzani is considering an offer for the club that is valued at around £884 million. He faces stern competition however, from Bahrain company Investcorp.
The path to a purchase for the 48-year-old would be anything but a simplistic one though. His contingent would first have to sell his stake in Leeds to prospective buyers and NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers, who currently control over 40% of the club.
However, that deal would reportedly be scuppered if Leeds fail to stay up in the Premier League this season. Following a harrowing 5-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last season, they lie perilously placed just two points above relegation ahead of a home game with Liverpool on Monday.
To compound a tough few days, Leeds have also been ordered to pay £24.5 million to former player Jean-Kevin Augustin after FIFA upheld his claims over a breach of contract. Augustin made just three appearances for the Yorkshire side in an injury-stricken loan spell.
The Italian giants do currently stand on the brink of a Champions League semi final following their 2-0 win at Benfica on Tuesday night. It would be a first appearance in the final four since their triumphant 2009/2010 campaign under Jose Mourinho, a season that represented the last time a side from Italy won Europe's marquee trophy.
Under Simone Inzaghi, they are struggling domestically though, lying fifth in Serie A. The result in Portugal ended a run of six games without a win in all competitions.
