Leeds Met Office weather forecast on Tuesday as 'polar vortex' looms

It will be a cloudy day across Leeds on Tuesday, says the Met Office.

After some freezing temperatures and wintry weather last week Leeds has seen a slightly warmer start to this week which is expected to continue into today (January 24).

The Met Office has said Leeds can expect a cloudy day with some sunny spells and fog in the start of the day. Maximum temperatures will hit 8 °C across the city.

But conditions could get much colder next week.

In the early hours of February 4, two inches of snow is forecast to fall in a large area of north west Scotland, with the threat of snow remaining through the rest of the country, as well as northern England.

But much worse is to come as the day progresses, with the latest weather maps showing that up to seven inches could have fallen in northern Scotland, and the threat of snow again spreading towards northern England and Wales.

There will be no let-up heading into February 5, with up to six inches of snow forecast for eastern Scotland and more than an inch hitting England around the North West and Midlands on February 5, according to weather charts.

Brian Gaze from The Weather Outlook told the Express : "Computer models are suggesting that a weakening of the Stratospheric Polar Vortex (SPV) in the coming weeks could lead to an increasing chance of cold weather during February.

"It's a long way off in weather terms but the period around Valentine's Day has, in the past, often brought the UK some of its coldest and most wintry spells of weather."

The Met Office said Tuesday's forecast will be much warmer though.
