A Leeds gran has condemned the “disgusting" and "extortionate” prices of baby milk as her family “struggles” through the cost of living crisis.
Grandmother-of-seven, Susan Ledger, 57, said her daughter is struggling to pay for the formula milk. Susan is also struggling to make ends meet as she depends on Personal Independent Payments (PIP) from the Government due to a range of health issues.
The Beeston gran says her three-month-old grandchild refuses to breast feed so relies on the 800g formula sold by Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s for more than £10 a pop.

Speaking about the cost of living crisis, Susan said: “It’s disgusting, a lot of people can’t afford it. A lot of people are on benefits, how are they going to cope?
"A lot of people are going to end up on the streets because of this.
“The prices of nappies and baby food and that lot, it’s just extortionate. My daughter pays a tenner for a can of baby milk. I can remember years and years ago when I could go to the clinic and get a box of baby milk, why don’t they bring them back?”
Susan, a mother of four, receives PIP as she suffers from breathing disorder COPD, asthma and a spinal injury. She has also hit out at the price of cow's milk, infuriated with the price hike in recent months.
The 57-year-old, who lives with her husband in their rented home, has to buy a lot of milk for whenever her four children, their partners and children visit. Susan says they get through eight pints of milk a day and it’s becoming a very expensive habit.
She said: “Just normal cow’s milk gone up hasn’t it – you pay £1.50 for a four pinter! It was only a £1. I’ve got a big family so we can go through two four pinters a day.”
Four pint bottles of milk sell at Morrisons for £1.55, at Tesco it is £1.45 and at Sainsbury’s it is £1.45.
