Leeds flood warnings as River Wharfe and River Aire levels remain dangerously high

People in some areas of Leeds are being warned that they may not have seen the end of flooding.

Storm Franklin may have resided, following its predecessors Storms Dudley and Eunice, but river levels remain high in places.

The River Aire and the River Wharfe have both flooded in the past few days.

There are flood alerts in place still at the Middle River Aire catchment, which includes Esholt, Apperly Bridge, Kirkstall, Leeds and onwards towards Castleford.

Here, the Environment Agency said: "River levels in the upper Wharfe are responding to recent rainfall and we expect lower Wharfe levels to rise again this evening.

"These levels will not be as high as we have experienced in recent days.

"Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Wharfe, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around the lower River Wharfe and tributaries from Ilkley to upstream of Ullerskelf."

The same is true at the Lower River Wharfe through Ilkley, Otley, Harewood and Wetherby.

Flood alert at Mickletown

Mill Lane is most at risk of flooding here. Mickletown Ings is reaching capacity and this is causing a risk that nearby properties may flood.

The water levels in the Ings will remain high throughout today (Tuesday, February 22). No further rainfall is forecast but river levels are expected to remain high into tomorrow.
