Leeds Bradford Airport chaos as flight landing delayed by almost 16 hours

A flight due to land into Leeds Bradford Airport this morning has been delayed almost 16 hours.

Passengers getting on a Jet 2 flight from Las Palmas Airport have been stuck in the airport since the early hours of this morning (April 11). The plane was due to set off from Gran Canaria to arrive at 3.10am in West Yorkshire.

But, now holiday goers arriving back in the UK will not land until 7pm - 15 hours and 50 minutes later than scheduled. It comes after airport bosses have issued urgent advice for anyone travelling over Easter.

Holidaymakers reported facing 'horrendous' queues and chaos at Leeds Bradford Airport last week due to a surge in people travelling. One queue even stretched from one end of the airport to the other, with another passenger seeing hundreds of people waiting in the fast track queue.

On Sunday, April 10, @damien_poole said there was a "massive, massive, massive queue at Leeds Bradford Airport security - one end of the airport." He reported he is "worried" after it took him two hours to get on the flight.

It is unclear what has caused the huge delay at Las Palmas Airport this morning, but the airport has issued a warning about delays going through security today. The previous Jet2 service into LBA from Las Palmas Airport went ahead without too many issues between Saturday and Sunday.

The flight was due to take to the sky from Las Palmas Airport at 10.30pm yesterday, but is scheduled to set off at 3.05pm, according to flightradar24.com. It set off slightly later than scheduled at 10.58pm, but landed ahead of time, at 2.57am the next day.

A red banner at the top of the airport's website drops down as soon as it loads up and the alert is written all in capitals. It states: "We are currently anticipating longer queue times for our security process. Please allow suitable time for security screening when arriving at the airport. We would recommend arriving two/three hours prior to departure."

All other Leeds Bradford Airport services are seemingly running on schedule, however LBA report: "If you're due to travel over the Easter period, please arrive at the earliest time your airline allows.

" You can help to minimise any delays by preparing for the security screening process."

Leeds Live requested a comment from LBA for further updates.
