Lee Johnson in Kevin Nisbet 'bail out' verdict as he delivers 'got to be better' Hibs assessment

Lee Johnson admits Hibs must get better after Kevin Nisbet rescued a point at Easter Road.

The Hibees looked like they would be heading for a defeat in front of their own fans before their star striker netted in added-time to double his tally on the day and make it five goals in two matches in what the capital boss has labelled as a point that could prove really important come the end of the season.

The Hibees were looking to build on last weekend's away day success at Motherwell as they bid to maintain the fight to finish in the top six and then look towards the European places. Glenn Middleton grabbed an early opener for the visitors before Nisbet levelled. On the half hour Ian Harkes restored United's lead but a 92nd minute equaliser secured a share of the points. The result leaves the Easter Road men seventh level on 27 points with St Mirren in sixth, but the Paisley side have two games in hand while all the other clubs above them have played one less game than Johnson's side.

Reflecting on the match and giving his assessment, he told Hibs TV: “I’m pleased and proud of the boys for going until the end. It was a difficult environment in terms of the pitch, being a goal down in the second half, and Dundee United sitting deep inside their own half. The boys kept going until the end.

“Nizzy scored two great goals, so that’s five in two games, and that’s really important.

“First 10 minutes we were idle, we didn’t get in behind, pass forward, turn the opposition, and they hustled and harried. We made a couple of mistakes and that gave them momentum.

“The first goal was a really poor one to concede, it was from a throw-in, we lost a runner, and then he cut inside and scored. We changed the shape, got an instant response, and scored, which was good.

“At 1-1 we felt like we could build some momentum, but then conceded another poor goal. The lads know that the goals we conceded were poor, so they’re taking responsibility and accountability for that.

“Like I say, in the end, we’ve gone for it with four forwards on the pitch, and Nizzy’s good finish bailed us out.

“I’m holding my hands up and saying we’ve got to be better, but the point could be really important come the end of the season and it keeps us in that top six mix.”
