Lee Bullen wants Dumfries turned into a sea of black and white as Ayr’s season reaches the wire.
United head for Queen of the South on Saturday – where they haven’t won in 20 years – with their season on a knife-edge.
And Bullen insists a big travelling support can tip the balance.
He told the Ayrshire Post: “We need to try and turn Palmerston into our home ground.
"We know all about Queens being our bogey team, but we’ve shattered similar records this season, so why not again?
“The fans were brilliant at Dunfermline on Saturday and can play a massive part if getting down to Dumfries in big numbers.
“It gives the players such a huge lift to run out and see that level of support.
"We’re now at the stage where that kind of thing is so crucial and we need everyone with us.”
Queens threw themselves a lifeline with last night's 2-1 win over Inverness and know only a win on Saturday will prolong their Championship stay.
And Bullen is still smarting from the late collapse which cost Ayr at East End Park as two goals in the last 11 minutes threw away three points.
He said: “You can analyse tactics and games all you want but football is pretty simple.
“You need to take our chances when they come and we had more than enough to win.
"Mistakes cost us but we should have been out of sight and the boys know that.
“We just need to refocus and have that belief in what we did for the first 79 minutes of the game at Dunfermline.
“If we produce that level of performance over these last two games, we’ll take care of ourselves.”
Jordan Houston and Daire O’Connor, who came off late on at East End, should be fine for Saturday.
Fraser Bryden will be monitored for a knock picked up in training on Friday.
Under 18s will go free on Saturday after Queens bosses moved to try and boost the attendance for the crunch clash.
