Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has emphasized the need for peace and reconstruction following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah. In a televised speech, Mikati announced plans to bolster the country's military to enforce government authority across all regions.

Mikati expressed determination to rebuild what was destroyed and enhance the role of legitimate institutions, particularly the military, in maintaining order. The deployment of Lebanese army troops in the southern part of the country is set to double to 10,000 soldiers, with at least 46 soldiers having lost their lives during the recent conflict.

Calling for Israel to adhere to the ceasefire terms and withdraw from Lebanese territories, Mikati stressed the right of Lebanese citizens to return to their homes and live in peace. He also urged for the election of a new president, a position that has remained vacant for over two years due to political deadlock among lawmakers.

“I hope there will be a new chapter in Lebanon. I am optimistic that the upcoming days will pave the way for the election of a new president of the republic,” Mikati stated.
