Smiler crash survivor Leah Washington claims she is "the best I've felt in a long time" after sharing a moving clip of her eight-year journey since the smash.
The now-25 year old was just 17 when she and boyfriend Joe Pugh sustained horrific injuries when the Alton Towers rollercoaster smashed into another carriage in a catastrophe which left four, including Leah, seriously injured.
So bad was the crash, Leah's left leg had to be amputated while Vicky Balch, who was in the seat next to her at the front, also lost her right leg.
Leah, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, said the day of the crash was the day "my life flipped", but has shared the ups and downs of the years since as she and Mr Pugh prepare to marry.
The survivor shared clips of herself in the months following the crash after losing her leg, before re-learning to walk, run and even ski on her new prosthetic.
"[Eight] years since my life flipped," Leah wrote, adding, "how time has flown!
"A brief little journey from then until now, a 17 year old girl thinking what was going to happen next, under confident after surgery and struggling to think positive...
"Fast forward 8 years and I feel the best I have in a long time, planning my dream wedding, feeling continued improvements in my fitness and [use] of my prosthetic alongside the support from my friends, family and followers".
Some 16 people were trapped when the Smiler crashed into a stationary test carriage on June 2, 2015, three years after the ride's grand opening.
The horrifying incident resulted in Alton Towers owners Merlin Entertainment being prosecuted and fined £5,000,000.
Both Leah and other survivor, Ms Balch, also separately sued the company in 2018 for negligence.
Meera Chauhan and daughter Vanisha Singh, who were also injured in the 2015 crash, lodged claims as well, citing ongoing psychological effects.
The theme park was branded a “shambles” by judge Michael Chambers in 2016, as he imposed a £5million fine on Merlin.
Leah and Joe, who had been on their first date at the theme park when they were caught in the crash, announced their engagement last year, revealing they had initially begun to drift apart while coping with Leah's injuries.
Recalling the accident at the time as the "longest thirty minutes of my life", she said: "My legs were caught between the safety bar and the ride in front, terrified and in excruciating pain, I was quickly losing sensation in my left leg."
Leah said she had asked Joe for his phone to ring her mum and he had replied he couldn't "because my finger is hanging off".
