Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson gained a reputation for scoring late goals and never giving in during games.
It was a hallmark of the United's success under the Scot. Their willingness to keep going perhaps best evidenced by their memorable 1999 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich.
The same is being shown by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, with the Etihad Stadium outfit showing similar heroics on the last day of the season to clinch the title. Three goals late on saw City overcome a 2-0 deficit against Aston Villa to claim the top flight trophy.

Both Manchester clubs had varying fortunes this season, to say the least. City ended the campaign as champions while United limped to sixth place with a goal difference of 0 and 35 points from the summit of the division.
Though it is perhaps not a shock to see United near the top of any list for late goals this season, City feature highly with 23 scored after the 75 minute mark. Title rivals Liverpool are one behind them with 22.
In the top four tiers of English football, Jurgen Klopp's side are level with Premier League bound Fulham and top flight hopefuls Nottingham Forest in this goalscoring aspect. Steve Cooper's side take on Huddersfield Town this weekend at Wembley in the Championship play-off final.
But though Guardiola's side have scored 23 goals late on in games, they do not top that list season. Indeed, a League One side has managed five more strikes after 75 minutes this season.
As highlighted by Playmaker Stats on Twitter, Bolton Wanderers top this list with 28 goals after 75 minutes in the 2021/22 season. Ian Evatt's side finished ninth in their first campaign back in the third tier of English football and have their sights set on promotion to the Championship next season.
It became something of a hallmark for Evatt's side to score goals late on in the campaign which has recently concluded. Not only did Wanderers score late goals, but they often turned out to be strikes which meant points on the board.
Amadou Bakayoko struck what proved to be winners against the likes Crewe Alex and Cheltenham Town, as well as a memorable equaliser on the road against Morecambe. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson earned a share of the spoils on the road versus Wigan Athletic and at home versus the Shrimps, as did MJ Williams at the University of Bolton Stadium against Sheffield Wednesday.
Those are just a handful of examples from the past campaign, but it bodes well for the 2022/23 season that a side keeps going until the end of matches and can be a potent goal threat. Wanderers will hoping that continues next campaign and plays its part in helping them challenge to reach the Championship.
