Law firm Hugh James announce series of promotions including four new partners

Law firm Hugh James has announced a series of new promotions across its business, including four new partners.

The move by the Cardiff headquartered firm increases its number of partners to 70. Moreover, nine solicitors have been promoted to senior associate and 12 to associate positions.

The firm’s new partners are commercial property specialist, Rachel Arentsen, Abigail Flanagan, who works in the dispute resolution team, Rebecca Rees, who heads up property dispute resolution and Lynda Reynolds, head of the inquest team.

The firm’s managing partner Alun Jones, said:” It brings me great pleasure to announce such a strong number of promotions again this year. Our progression pathway plays a vital role in nurturing the talent we have here at Hugh James. We place an important focus on supporting all our colleagues in their professional development and being able to recognise our brilliant team with these latest advancements is fantastic. They are a credit to the firm and the promotions are a well-deserved result of their hard work and dedication.”

The firm has also been reappointed to the Development Bank of Wales’ legal panel framework.

Hugh James has been providing legal support to the Welsh Government-owned investment bank (previously known as Finance Wales) for nearly 15-years.

It retains its role on the panel with four other legal firms. The framework will run for a period of three years, with the possibility of extension for a further 12 months.

Under the framework agreement, Hugh James will provide advice in relation to debt and equity investment and commercial contracts across the bank’s portfolio, as well as property development advice to its operation in the north-east of England.

Hugh James partner and head of corporate/commercial Gerallt Jones, said: “It’s an absolute privilege to be reappointed by the Development Bank of Wales for yet another term. The Bank plays a crucial role in the Welsh economy and has provided much-needed support to businesses throughout the pandemic, including through the Covid-19 Wales business loan scheme. We look forward to continuing the long relationship we’ve built over the years, and supporting the Bank in delivering its mission, particularly in this challenging economic climate.”

Director of risk, compliance and legal at the development bank, Neil Maguinness, said: “We’re very pleased to have reappointed Hugh James to our framework. Their continued support and advice during the last 15 years has been invaluable, particularly as we worked through both the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent recovery. We’re pleased to maintain our links with a major Welsh firm, and look forward to continuing our relationship with them during this next term.”
