Over 680,000 law enforcement personnel have voiced their support for President Donald Trump's FBI director nominee, Kash Patel, urging the Senate to confirm him swiftly. This significant backing includes state, local, and federal supporters from various organizations such as the National Sheriffs’ Association, the National Police Association, and over 370,000 members of the national Fraternal Order of Police.
The law enforcement groups highlighted Patel's extensive experience in national security, having served as a trial attorney for the Justice Department's National Security Division, at the National Security Council, and as chief of staff to the acting secretary at the Department of Defense.

In a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the groups commended Patel's commitment to public safety and enhancing the FBI's collaboration with state and local law enforcement agencies. They praised his dedication to upholding the rule of law and protecting the American people.
Despite the endorsements, Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have raised concerns about Patel's nomination, citing recent investigations by the Trump administration into FBI personnel involved in the Jan. 6 events. President Trump's remarks about potentially firing some FBI officials have also sparked criticism.
During his confirmation hearing, Patel assured lawmakers that he would safeguard FBI employees against political retribution. However, Democrats succeeded in delaying the confirmation vote to seek further clarification on Patel's previous actions and statements.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, Sen. Charles Grassley, rebuked the Democrats' efforts to delay Patel's confirmation, labeling them as baseless. Grassley emphasized that Patel had already undergone an extensive confirmation hearing and provided substantial documentation to address lawmakers' inquiries.
Barring any unforeseen opposition, Patel is anticipated to pass both the committee vote and the full Senate vote, given the Republican majority in the chamber.
