Law and District star breaks Scottish age group record amid gold medal success

Law and District Amateur Athletic Club star Tehillah Ikechukwu Okonkwo broke a Scottish age group record on her way to claiming gold for Scotland recently.

The under-15 athlete was one of three members of Law and District to represent Scottish Schools at the Schools International Track and Field Championships in Belfast on the weekend of July 16 and 17 – and she blew the competition away.

Tehillah joined U17 Jade Gray and U17 Codie McHolm, who all received well deserved selections after medalling in their respective events at the Scottish Schools Championships in June at Grangemouth.

U15 Tehillah competed with U17 women in the 100m and 200m, achieving a new Scottish Record in the U15 age group in the 100m with a new personal best performance of 12.1s.

Tehillah then went on to win the Championship title in the 200m with a swift run of 24.97s, equalling her personal best performance.

At the end of the event Tehillah was awarded ‘best female’ representing the Scotland team.

A club spokesperson said: “What fantastic achievements for Tehillah and her Coaches Tom McTaggart, James Scullion and Sean Murphy.

“We are so proud of them all!"

Meanwhile, U17 Jade Gray also performed well in the shot put, finishing in an impressive 5th place with a massive throw of 12.87m, with a 3kg shot.

U17 Codie McHolm ran just 0.08s outside her personal best to finish 8th in the 300m with a fabulous time of 41.69s.

The club spokesperson added: “All Law athletes are now working towards the National Track and Field Championships, which will be held throughout the month of August and we wish them all the best for the competition.”
