Law and District Amateur Athletics Club’s junior and senior members have been in impressive form over the last month, with a series of fine displays at top competitions.
The Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships took place in Grangemouth for pupils in S1-S6 and Law athletes had a cracking two days of competition, achieving many personal bests and medals.
U15 Johann Gillon took the championship title in the hammer and a bronze in the discus, with a PB of 26.28m.
U20 Miya Waldron won the championship title in the javelin, U15 Skye Davidson won silver in the javelin and U17 Ross Ferguson finished just outside the medals, finishing 4th in the discus and 7th in the shot put.
U20 Logan Whitton had a great performance in the 2km steeplechase, winning the silver medal.
In U15 girls 800m, Olivia Inglis, Lucy Corns and Erin McGurk all have solid runs, as did Cameron Chambers in the boy’s 800m.
In the 100m U17 event, Annalise McCormick made it to the semi finals and teams mates Tehilla Okonkwo and Tiana Greenshields went one further making the final, with Tehilla taking a fabulous silver and Tiana finishing an excellent 4th.
The U17 Men were next and Jak Weir ran well in his heat, as did Jude Main. Team-mates Owen Murphy and Ross Duffin reached the final, with Ross achieving bronze and Owen going one better winning silver.
In the U20 women’s race Jade Gray reached the final, finishing 6th.
Jessica Inglis again ran a determined race to finish 5th in the U17 girls 3000m, while in the U15 girl’s High Jump, Erin McGurk, in just her first national competition, jumped 1.35, finishing 12th.
Next on the track was the U20 women’s 400m and Cody McHolm just missed a medal finishing 4th, while the U17 women’s 300m saw another good run from Lauren McNair.
In the U20 women’s shot put, Jade Gray won a fabulous gold and in the 3000m for under 17 men, Ryan Kellock acquitted himself well in a talented field.
Cara Murphy won a superb silver in the U13 girl’s 100m and U15 girls Lucia McKenna, Rachel Williamson, Neve Murray, Sophie Todd, India Wood and Eva Gray all competed, with Neve reaching the semi finals.
In the U17 girls 800m, Neve Elliott had a great run to get a two second PB.
Next on the track was the U17 women’s 200m, with Tehillah Okonkwo having a great run to take gold and team-mate Tiana Greenshields finishing 4th.
In the U17 men’s 200m, Ross Duffin and Owen Murphy both made the final finishing 4th and 5th, respectively, and Jude Main had a good run in his heat.
In the U20 women’s 200m Jade Gray ran well to reach the final finishing 7th
Next up was the U15 boys 1500m and well done John Frood to run so well in very hot conditions, while Jack Duffin threw over 30m for the first time in the U15 boys javelin.
U15 girl Lucy Corns jumped well in her first national long jump competition and in the final event of the day, the U15 girls discus, Anna Bondar finished 9th and Eva Gray finished 4th with a big PB.
Meanwhile, Law athletes continue to excel in many disciplines in events throughout Scotland.
Not only did they have seniors competing in the Edinburgh Marathon, they had three youngsters taking part in the Marathon Festival at Holyrood Park, with Tyler and Orla Turnbull competing in the 5k and Helena Wotherspoon in the 2k.
Seniors Grant Kerr and John O’Leary competed in the full marathon, whilst Bobby Hill and Lesley Graham ran the half marathon, in what was a very warm day.
Maddy Watson continued her good form, achieving the silver medal at the West District Hill Racing Championships in Kilpatrick Hills. Maddy competed over 7km, with a 350m vertical climb in a fab time of 37.49mins.
Meanwhile, other senior athletes took part in the Brian Goodwin 10k in Cartha Queen’s Park, Glasgow, with Jess Robson and Elaine Boyle achieving first place in their respective age categories.
