Laurence Fox has been sacked from GB News following on-air comments he made about political journalist Ava Evans.
The channel announced the decision on Wednesday afternoon, as it was reported Fox was arrested by the Met Police at his London home on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to ULEZ cameras.
GB News presenter Calvin Robinson was also fired by GB News.
In a statement, the channel said: “Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson were both suspended last week pending internal investigations that have now concluded.
“As of today, GB News has ended its employment relationship with Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson.
“The internal investigation into Dan Wootton continues.”
Actor-turned-politician Fox made a series of personal remarks about political correspondent Ms Evans live on the show last Tuesday, describing her as a “little woman”, before saying: “Who would want to sh*g that?”
On Wednesday, the media watchdog said it had received a total of 8,846 complaints about the episode.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported Fox was arrested at his home in Stockwell, south London, on Wednesday.
A Met Police spokesperson told the news outlet: “On Wednesday 4, October officers arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to ULEZ cameras and encouraging or assisting offences to be committed.
“He was arrested in Stockwell and has been taken to a South London police station where he remains in custody.”
It came after an appearance on video streaming platform Rumble on Tuesday, in which Fox told former radio presenter Maajid Nawaz he believes all ULEZ cameras in outer London should be torn down.
“I would encourage mass, mass removal of the surveillance state, because once it’s there you cannot remove it,” he said on the show.
“I would be happy to be arrested myself. When I go out and take their cameras down, which I will be doing...I will be taking my phone with me so they know exactly where I am.
“I would happily sit there in court and go ‘who voted for this? what’s your evidence for the outer London cleaner air zone? what’s your evidence for doing this?’”
A spokesperson for the Met said: “On Wednesday 4, October officers arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to ULEZ cameras and encouraging or assisting offences to be committed.
“He was arrested in Stockwell and has been taken to a South London police station where he remains in custody.”
