Laura Woods to leave talkSPORT breakfast show as date for last double act with Ally McCoist detailed

Laura Woods has announced she will depart talkSPORT breakfast with her final appearance on air at the end of the month.

The host of the award-winning show - who has struck up a real brilliant double act with Rangers legend Ally McCoist - has been in the big chair for the past three years but will take to the airwaves for the final time on Wednesday, June 28.

She's been a huge part of the success of the 6am-10am radio slot, entertaining millions of people up and down the country and has established herself as one of the leading broadcasters in her field. Known as 'Woodsy' she paid tribute to all the listeners and even managed to joke about Spurs in the process.

She said: “You lot, our listeners, have given me so much comfort and guided me through some of my toughest moments, without even realising it.

"So I wanted to thank you personally for that. I will miss it dearly. Even the Spurs fans.

“For what feels like a lifetime I’ve been a listener of talkSPORT. For the last six years it’s been my home, where we get to spend our mornings talking about sport. There’s nothing better. I know I will never find a job like this. It’s unique.

“Three years as the host of this amazing breakfast show, three bits of silverware for the trophy cabinet and record listening figures. I’m very proud of what we achieved here. One thing’s for sure: I will always be part of this family at talkSPORT.”

McCoist paid an emotional tribute on air as he told Woodsy they would be 'pals forever'.

He said: "I know I speak for everybody, it has been an absolute pleasure. I cannot tell you how much I have loved it. I have loved it from start to finish.

"I love you dearly, you've been a breath of fresh air. You've made feel 18 again, in the nicest possible way. On a Thursday, I feel 84 when I work with Brazil but you make me feel 18!

"There was an inevitability about it, dare I say it, because we all know you're going places and you're going to keep moving in a northerly direction.

"It doesn't make it any easier. We have had an absolute ball, I have loved every minute of the last three years and I know we'll be pals forever. We might not work on the radio every day again but we'll be pals forever.

"Listen, when one door closes another one opens. It's been a magic wee period in our lives and you'll move on to the next chapter.

"So thank you on behalf of everybody."
