Laura Whitmore has shared exciting details of her new presenting job just days after she shocked fans with the announcement she has quit as Love Island host.
The Irish presenter took to Instagram on Monday evening to share the news with fans, saying she had decided to step back from the role she initially only intended to do for a year.
The 37-year-old has now followed up the news with a further update on what she plans to do next, as she is set to front a new three-part series for ITV, titled Laura Whitmore Investigates.
The series will see Laura explore “the worlds where sex and power collide,” delving into “edgy, difficult worlds”.
The TV presenter, who is due to make her West End debut later this year, excitedly announced the news on her Instagram page, writing: “Some news! (I’m all about the news this week, tomorrow I will reveal the breaking news of what I had for breakfast! Riveting stuff.)”
Laura said: “It’s a dream come true to have this platform and work with a brilliant team at ITV through this series of investigative films.
“Getting back to my journalist roots, I hope we can shine a light on some really important topics and issues and delve into a variety of serious and interesting real-life subjects.”
Commissioned by ITV’s Factual Entertainment department, ITV’s controller of factual Jo Clinton Davis explained: “We’re excited about the opportunity ITVX presents for us and with our commissioning we want to broaden the palette of factual in very different and surprising ways.
“Documentary box sets with directorial ambition, on a diverse range of subjects, lead our developing slate; alongside series from new factual talent, including Laura Whitmore Investigates, which we are delighted to announce.”
Earlier this week, Laura shocked Love Island fans when she wrote on Instagram: "Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love Island.
"There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.
"I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline."
The task ahead of ITV bosses to replace Laura’s hosting role has already prompted rife speculation as fans guessed at who the new face of the series could be.
