Latin Grammys headed to Spain for first show outside the US

The Latin Grammy Awards are set to make history with a ceremony in Spain.

The 2023 edition of the award show will take place in Andalusia, the region’s president announced Wednesday, marking the first time the Latin Grammys will happen outside the U.S.

President Juan Manuel Moreno says the ceremony will reach “an audience of 100 million people” and is one of several events Andalusia will host through 2025 through an agreement with the Latin Recording Academy.

“We are considering Sevilla to celebrate the 24th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards this November, but we are still working through the logistics with our partners TelevisaUnivision,” Manuel Abud, CEO of the Latin Recording Academy, said in a statement. “We will share additional details about the date and location of the next Latin GRAMMYs soon.”

The Latin Grammys, which celebrate achievements in Latin music, debuted in 2000 and have frequently been held in Las Vegas, including in each of the past two years. The show has also taken place in New York, Miami, Houston and Los Angeles.

Last November’s ceremony saw Spanish artist Rosalia win album of the year for “Motomami,” beating Bad Bunny, Marc Anthony, Christina Aguilera and others. The 30-year-old Rosalia, who is from the Barcelona area, also won album of the year in 2019 for “El Mal Querer.”

Jorge Drexler and C. Tangana won 2022′s song and record of the year for their collaboration “Tocarte,” while Silvana Estrada and Angela Alvarez were both named best new artist. Bad Bunny, Aguilera and Anthony also won honors at last year’s show.
