Latest on potential Mike Vrabel-Josh McDaniels reunion in New England

Not only would Mike Vrabel be interested in coaching the New England Patriots, but he might bring former longtime Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels with him, per Boston Sports Journal’s Greg A. Bedard.

Vrabel will be the hottest head coaching candidate on the market in 2025, and he will be appealing to multiple NFL teams. The Patriots could be included in that mix if ownership gets cold feet on Jerod Mayo.

“Yes, he would have an interest in coaching the New England Patriots, and I think there’s a pretty good chance that Josh McDaniels would come with him. That’s my understanding. That’s what I’m hearing,” Bedard said on the “Patriots Press Pass” podcast.

New England is in danger of finishing with only three wins on the season, which is worse than the 2023 team under Bill Belichick.

It isn’t fair to pin all of that on Mayo, a first-year head coach who inherited a horrible situation. With that said, it might be hard for owner Robert Kraft to turn down the possibility of bringing in an experienced coach like Vrabel, along with McDaniels, who is one of the best offensive minds in football.

If that pairing really is a possibility, it would put tremendous pressure on ownership to at the very least consider making a change.
