Latest Greater Manchester Covid infection rates as cases fall in nine boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates are falling in Greater Manchester everywhere except Stockport, latest official data revealed on Saturday.

The weekly 'trend' in cases in the town increased by three per cent.

Cases are falling in every other Greater Manchester borough.

And the data - published on Saturday - also shows a slight increase in the national infection rate.

A total of 2,334 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Stockport over the seven days ending on January 25 - the latest data available.

That's 72 more cases than the week before.

Cases in Bolton, meanwhile, fell by almost a quarter, according to the statistics.

Tameside continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester - although cases there fell by 15 per cent from the previous week.

The borough recorded a rate of 895.1 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending January 25, according to the UK Health Security Agency.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 681.7 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 751.3 cases per 100,000 population.

That's lower than the national average, which is 983.9 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 21,304 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week ending January 25.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 3,726 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 15 per cent as a whole in the last week..

The infection rate is lower than the national average in all ten local authority areas in Greater Manchester.

In the week ending January 25, 91 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 33 fewer than the week before.

In Tameside, there were 2,033 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 25, which is 362 fewer than the previous seven days. It has the highest infection rate in the region.

The infection rate in Tameside is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 15 per cent.

The trend is down in Bury, where there were 1,416 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 25, which is 377 fewer than the previous seven days. That is down by 21 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Bury is 742.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1,620 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 25, which is 342 fewer than the previous seven days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 681.7 cases per 100,000 people - down by 17 per cent week-on-week.

There was a fall of 23 per cent in cases in Bolton over the week ending January 25, and the infection rate is now 723.0 cases per 100,000 population.

Bolton recorded 2,084 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period - 608 fewer than the previous week.

Wigan recorded 2,473 coronavirus cases, which is 246 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Wigan is 747.8 cases per 100,000 people - down nine per cent week-on-week.

There were 1,886 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 160 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Trafford is down by eight per cent and the latest infection rate is 793.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Rochdale saw a total of 1,638 cases in the week ending January 25, which is 420 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 20 per cent.

In Rochdale, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 732.4 cases per 100,000 people.

In Manchester, the number of cases is down by 16 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 722.6 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 4,016 positive Covid-19 tests in Manchester in the week ending January 25, which was 760 fewer than the previous seven days.

Salford is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 686.7 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 1,804 cases recorded in Salford, which is 523 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 22 per cent.
