Latest details of exciting Stobswell planning developments released

The latest details for a Stobswell planning development have been released.

Community leaders say the ‘Pocket Place’ in Albert and Craigie Streets will have a positive effect on the local area.

Drawings released this week show more details of the proposed makeover including suggested plant types and bench designs.

Once planning has been negotiated and is agreed by the City Council, it is hoped building works will start this Autumn.

Speaking to Dundee Live, Colin Clement from the Stobswell Forum, said that while nothing has been delivered thus far, it ‘feels positive’ that the community plans are moving forward in some areas.

He said: “The Stobswell Forum have been working with Sustrams and the council’s City Development Dept to bring positive change to the Shopping District around Albert St and we see this as only the start.

“The community want to see the area regenerated with more focus on pedestrians and cyclists, more places to sit, more colour and more plantings.

“Its really exciting to see the developments getting closer to being delivered with more projects set to be announced over the coming days and weeks"

While local councillor, Lynne Short, added: “Everyone is talking about Stobswell even the correct spelling of the abridged version because much of what is happening is at the grass roots level with support in place from funding organisations and the council so it catching folks imagination.

“As a Councillor I also have a job to do 'joining the dots' and making things happen.

“For example when we knew the pocket parks were to become permanent fixtures I was able to ask on behalf of Clepington School to have the infrastructure moved into their playground.

“Creating a new seating area in a very urban play area but also with the planters a project opportunity for learning about growing.”
