Late Late Show: Ryan Tubridy teases duet with Michael Buble

Ryan Tubridy has said he is "feeling the pressure" ahead of Friday's Late Late Show - as he teased a special duet with Michael Buble.

Buble, one of the world's best known and beloved musicians, is top of the bill for the RTE chat show later on.

He'll talk to Ryan about working with his heroes Paul McCartney and Willie Nelson on his new album 'Higher', and how he might leave music altogether after gathering a huge following on TikTok.

Naturally, he'll perform a tune too with the house band.

Ryan, who is no stranger to a musical number or two thanks to the Late Late Toy Show over the years, spoke on his RTE radio show on Friday morning ahead of tonight's edition of the chat show.

He said: "Michael Buble is in town already, I was chatting to him briefly yesterday and he is in flying form. I went for a walk to get my steps in and his new album is beautiful.

"It includes a beautiful version of Crazy with him duetting with Willie Nelson and it's lovely. It's a gorgeous album. He's back in the game, he had a low point a few years ago with his son but all is good in the world now.

"The talk of getting a duet together for me at some point is going. That made me sleep about two hours last night at the thought of it, a bit like the Leaving Cert, the thought of me with that man and his amazing voice and then my talk-sing-dad-few drinks in voice doesn't compute.

"There is considerable pressure being put on me. I'm climbing a mountain tomorrow! I can't be making a fool of myself and Buble tonight! Hopefully we'll get a couple of tunes going tonight and it's all live, which is the beauty of it."

The Canadian singer leads a stacked line-up for the first Late Late of April.

The crooner will be joined by Derry Girls star Siobhan McSweeney, Barry McGuigan, Charlie Bird and his Climb with Charlie supporters for this week’s show.

Derry Girls’ McSweeney will be on the show to chat about going home to Cork to film her new television series, how she ended up in a nursing home after breaking her leg and making saucy candlesticks during lockdown.

Ahead of making his ascent to Croagh Patrick, Irish boxing legend Barry McGuigan will discuss dedicating his climb to, not only Charlie Bird and Vicky Phelan, but also his beloved late daughter, Nika.
