People who overstay their visa in Australia will be sent to detention centres and backpacker visas will be curbed as Labor launches a major shake-up of the migration system in a bid to fend off the threat of One Nation.
Migration levels were too high and placing a strain on the housing market, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said as he revealed the long-awaited changes at the National Press Club.
