The Las Vegas Strip has hosted long-running performer residencies over the years, with some schedules for acts such as Wayne Newton, Donny Osmond and Barry Manilow that seem to be endless.
Manilow has several shows scheduled every month, except August, throughout 2023 at the Westgate Resort & Casino. Osmond has 76 shows scheduled at Caesars Entertainment's (CZR) Harrah's Las Vegas in every month in 2023, except June and December. Finally, Newton has shows scheduled at Bugsy's Cabaret at the Flamingo in Vegas in every month this year through New Year's Eve, Dec. 31.
The Strip also has its share of huge musical acts that have held lengthy residencies before concluding them. Some have hinted about returning, while others might never return.
No Word on a Strip Return
Lady Gaga made Las Vegas her home for her Enigma + Jazz & Piano residency which ran Dec. 28, 2018 through May 1, 2022, at MGM Resorts International's (MGM) Park Theater at the Park MGM. Reports have said Lady Gaga is negotiating to resume her residency in Las Vegas in 2023, but no details have been revealed on when that might happen. The payoff would be big if she does return to the Vegas stage as her previous residency reportedly earned $78 million at the box office, with Gaga getting a guarantee of $1 million per show for the 74 initial shows of her residency.
Superstar singer Adele rescheduled a 24-show “Weekends With Adele” residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace that was set for every Friday and Saturday from Jan. 21 until April 16, 2022. She had to cancel those shows, however, as members of her crew contracted covid and some of the set pieces designed for the performance were not ready.
Adele postponed the residency to Nov. 18, 2022, with a break from Christmas through Jan. 20, and was set to end her run on March 25. However, Adele extended her residency by 34 more dates, running from June 16, 2023, to Nov. 4, 2023.
Celine Dion Tour Goes to Europe First
Superstar singer Celine Dion had one of the most successful residencies in Vegas. The Queen of the Power Ballad's first residency, A New Day, began at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in 2003 and ended in 2007, followed by her Celine residency from 2011 to 2019, earning about $681 million in combined ticket sales.
Dion had scheduled a return to the Strip at Resorts World Theater in November 2021, but cancelled those performances. The hotel had held dates open for Dion for this month, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported, to possibly coincide with the release of her film "Love Again" this month, but that also didn't happened.
A neurological disorder forced Dion to either cancel or postpone her 2023 Courage tour European dates. Dion's shows from Feb. 24, 2023 to April 11, 2023, were rescheduled for March 6 to April 22, 2024. Her European summer shows from May 31 to July 17, 2023, were cancelled, but her shows from Aug. 26 to Oct. 4, 2023, remain as scheduled.
Dion has not commented yet on another Vegas residency, but depending on how her European goes, Dion could return to the strip in 2024, once Dion's European tour concludes, the Review-Journal said. That return would likely be in mid to late 2024.
