Las Vegas Strip Sphere brings back huge rock band residency

Legendary rock band U2 opened Sphere Entertainment's Sphere Las Vegas with a 40-show U2/UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere residency in September 2023.

U2's residency is only the beginning of a never-ending string of residencies in the state-of-the-art venue for years to come.

After U2 completed its residency, Sphere signed more superstar entertainers in the 18,600-seat venue, which can hold a 20,000-standing capacity.

Jam band Phish booked a short engagement with four shows in April 2024, and Grateful Dead spinoff band Dead & Company followed with 30 shows at the Las Vegas Sphere from May 16 through Aug. 10, 2024.

Phish will continue to tour and might someday return to the Sphere for another four-show engagement, or possibly longer, as the band has been known for booking four-night runs in the past.

The band will perform a four-night engagement at New York's Madison Square Garden from Dec. 28 to 31, 2024, for a New Year's Eve holiday run.

Dead & Company concluded its final concert tour at Oracle Park in San Francisco on July 16, 2023, and is not expected to tour again. After a successful 30-show residency at the Sphere, the band is expected by many to someday return for another residency.

Since wrapping up their Sphere residency, Dead & Co. has been quiet about their plans. No other limited engagements or residencies have been scheduled in 2024 or 2025.

Dead & Co. frontman Bob Weir, however, is headlining the Dead Ahead music festival Jan. 9-13 at Riviera, Cancun, Mexico, to keep the Grateful Dead fire burning.

The Las Vegas Strip Sphere adds more Eagles concerts

The Sphere's current residency featuring the Eagles doesn't have an end date yet, though.

An overwhelming demand for tickets to the Eagles' residency at Sphere Entertainment's  (SPHR)  Sphere Las Vegas has prompted the band to add four more shows to its engagement on March 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2025, expanding the total run to 28 performances so far, according to a statement from the Eagles.

Demand for Eagles Sphere tickets is serious. Earlier in October, the Eagles expanded their residency from 20 to 24 shows with the addition of four weekend shows in February.

It's a good bet that the band will continue adding shows to its Sphere residency in 2025, as the latest additions were not designated as the Eagles' last shows in the residency.

The Eagles on June 13 unveiled the original eight shows of the residency for September and October and then five days later added four more shows in Nov. 1, 2, 8, and 9. The band on June 26 added another four shows Dec. 6, 7, 13, and 14, and in July added four more shows Jan. 17, 18, 24, and 25.

The Eagles performed their first four shows on Sept. 20, 21, 27, and 28 and continued with four shows in October.
