Las Vegas Strip casino signs rock superstar for new residency

Las Vegas has been a destination for classic rock and roll headliners for decades.

Once many of these stars fall off the charts and start easing off the national tour circuit, the ones that still have star power end up heading for the packed showrooms of Vegas to perform residencies or shorter engagements. Success in Vegas might keep them off the summer fair circuit for a while.

South Point Hotel Casino & Spa south of the Strip on South Las Vegas Boulevard has been known for featuring classic rock and roll acts from the 1960s in its showroom.

In 2023, South Point hosted such stars as "Going Out of My Head" singers The Lettermen, "Come a Little Bit Closer" performers Jay and the Americans, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" singers The Righteous Brothers, "Young Girl" hitmakers Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, and "This Diamond Ring" singers Gary Lewis and the Playboys.

South Point last year also featured Herman's Hermits, with the original lead singer of "There's a Kind of Hush," Peter Noone, who returns to the hotel-casino for a short residency Sept. 27-29 with tickets a bargain at $55.

Another classic hitmaker, Van Morrison, performed a short three-show residency on the Strip in September 2023 at Caesars Entertainment's  (CZR)  Planet Hollywood.

Legendary rock star Rod Stewart opened his "Hits" residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in 2011, and after 200 shows in 13 years, the "Maggie May" singer closed the show on Aug. 7, 2024.

John Fogerty returns to the Strip for new residency

Finally, classic rock star John Fogerty returns to the Las Vegas Strip for three shows on his new Celebration Tour residency at the Wynn Resorts'  (WYNN)  Encore Theater at the Wynn Las Vegas in January 2025.

More Las Vegas Strip:

Fogerty is expected to perform his Creedence Clearwater Revival hits, such as "Fortunate Son," "Bad Moon Rising," and "Proud Mary" as well as his solo hits, like "Centerfield" and "Rock and Roll Girls" on Jan. 22, 24 and 25, 2025.

AEG, Amex and Radio presales begin Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. Pacific time at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets go on sale to the general public Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. Pacific time.

Fogerty last performed at the Encore Theater between Nov. 9 and 19, 2022 with a six-show residency, after postponing shows he previously scheduled between Feb. 23 and March 5, 2022, for unspecified reasons.

The "Old Man Down the Road" singer previously canceled nine shows scheduled for Nov. 4-21, 2020, at the Encore because of the Covid-19 pandemic and rescheduled them for October 2021.

Fogerty in January 2023 regained control of his music, acquiring the majority interest in his worldwide publishing rights. The Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter has been honored as one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists, 100 Greatest Songwriters and 100 Greatest Singers by Rolling Stone.

He also has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame.
