Larne midfielder John Herron hit with 10-match ban over 'pro-IRA' shirt photo

Larne midfielder John Herron has been hit with a 10-match ban by the Irish FA for 'bringing the game into disrepute' after he was pictured wearing a t-shirt with a 'pro-IRA' slogan.

The BBC is reporting that the IFA has also imposed a £500 fine on the Inver Park club.

Larne had suspended Herron with immediate effect after the image had circulated online last Sunday. The club also launched its own investigation into the matter.

It is believed the photo was taken during a Wolfe Tones concert at a Féile an Phobail event in West Belfast.

The BBC reported the ban and fine on Saturday afternoon as Larne prepared to take on Glenavon. The club has not yet made any comment on the punishment.

It is understood Herron was issued with a notice of complaint for an alleged breach of Article 17 'bringing the game into disrepute'.
