Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump has expressed her willingness to serve in the U.S. Senate if asked by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to fill the vacancy that will arise when Senator Marco Rubio resigns to become the Secretary of State.

Lara Trump stated that she would 'seriously consider' the opportunity to represent the people of Florida and would be honored to fill the seat if chosen.

President-elect Trump nominated Rubio for Cabinet position.

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Rubio for the Cabinet-level position, and if Rubio steps down from the Senate, DeSantis will have the authority to appoint a temporary replacement until a special election is held.

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina praised Lara Trump, expressing his excitement at the prospect of her serving in the Senate, stating that Republicans could not find a better candidate.

Former Florida Governor and current Senator Rick Scott also voiced his support for Lara Trump, endorsing her as a strong candidate to represent Floridians in the Senate.

Republicans secured majorities in both the Senate and House during the 2024 elections, setting the stage for potential new appointments and shifts in leadership.

Senator Rubio, who has been in office since 2011, expressed his commitment to carrying out President Trump's foreign policy agenda as the incoming Secretary of State, emphasizing a focus on peace through strength and prioritizing American interests.

With the possibility of a Senate seat opening up in Florida, all eyes are on Governor DeSantis as he considers potential candidates to fill the position and represent the state in the nation's capital.
