Landslide leads to mine collapse in Congo; over 200 killed

A mine collapse triggered by a landslide in Rubaya, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, killed more than 200 people on Wednesday, local authorities said.

The collapse occurred at a coltan mine that produces around 15 per cent of the world’s supply of the mineral, which is processed into tantalum used in mobile phones, computers, aerospace components and gas turbines.
